I actually do see chemistry between him and Nat and really hope that their relationship continues down the very soapy path they've started. That being said, oh man do I want him to go down ugly for the Buchanan scam.
Watching Dorian spank his ass was joyous. 'You PUNK! You're a first time NOVICE con man trying to pull off this huge scheme...' Man, when Dorian finds out that Jared is, in fact, bilking her beloved David out of his inheritance the fur will really fly then. I can't wait.
I don't like Jared in his scheme because he comes off so smug and entitled so I really can't wait until he's found out. But I do hope that it allows some good stuff between him and Nat. She should kick his ass good for trying to screw with her family... forgiveness will come later. |
Perhaps that's what bothers me about his character -- this sense of entitlement. He first exercised it during the "blackmail me into a BE job" scam, but he's showing it in spades during the "Asa's son" scam.
I too found Dorian taking him down a peg delightful. But then, I love everything about Robin Strasser. It's so great to see how many stories they've brought her into. There were years when Higley had her twiddling her thumbs.
I know most people love the Vicki/Charlie romance but for some reason I always like Vicki's men with Dorian mo' better. LOL. I guess I'm just perverse. Maybe it's because Erika Slezak's portrayal of Vicki often comes off (to me) so holier than thou. I think ES is capable of brilliant work (hence her many emmys) but there are a lot of times I think her reputation is better than her actual acting. All too often she depends on rolling her eyes and other almost 3rd grade reactions. It lacks subtlety to me. But she also turns around and gives us powerhouse performances like her illnes during the Paris diner hostage situation. Man, I truly believed that woman was on the verge of complete heart failure. Very compelling.
Liked Todd during his scenes with Jack. He owned his actions, didn't try to excuse them and tried to handle the tough stuff. Trevor St. John is so quirky, I often wonder what other actors think when doing scenes with him. I get this sense (don't know why) that he may do the unexpected in scenes at times in an effort to give his character stretch. This can either work well to bring brilliant performances and a sense of immediacy to the work -- or it can so disconcert the other actors that the "exploring" actor ends up grandstanding. (Tony Geary does this in spades and it often is exceptional -- often annoying and fake.) I could be wrong -- it's just a vibe I get off of some of the acting decisions he's made since taking over the role.

Best soap line evuh:
John: What happened bud? Why are you here? [Hiding in the closet.]
Mimi's Son: I got weirded out when the phone rang and noone was there. I've seen stuff like that in the movies ... and it's never good.
About time a TV character figured out what the rest of us scream at the TV screen when the baddies are near. LOL.

I don't like Jared in his scheme because he comes off so smug and entitled
For me, it sort of works, because it's sort of refreshing to see a prominent soap opera character predominantly motivated by ambition and careerism, rather than just 1) the desire for revenge, and 2) love/lust.
But maybe I'm just blinded by my attraction to the actor playing Jared. As I've mentioned several times in comments, I'm a slut for scruff.

Anyone else a little yucked-out by the idea of Starr-Cole sex? I'm so torn about Starr as a character. Always loved her up until the Cole thing. Now she seems so needy and clingy instead of the fun punky kid she used to be. I know, I know, she's probably playing a pretty realistic 16 year old, but she's also sooooo annoying. Must we have a Starr meltdown everyday? Either way, there's nothing romantic (or interesting) about Starr-Cole sex.
The worst part of it is when they say they're going to "Make love." Blargh!

You said it Swan! It is yuck. I guess it's grossing me out because, while I know that teens do this all the time, I just feel like the actress is too young to be appearing in her bra, simulating sex on television. I just don't like it. In terms of the character of Starr, I must say that I've never enjoyed her. She's too whiny and she's a bit of a brat. On the other hand, could you expect anything else given her parents! Poor kid didn't stand a chance.

YES!!! I felt like I was watching kiddie porn! I turned my eyes away because it just felt wrong.

Oh good, you guys are already talking about this. I just saw
this story about the Starr/sex storyline and was coming to ask whether it was actually being done well. I've never looked to soaps for a realistic portrayal of teen relationships (or...any relationships, really), and I worry about what looks like a story in which she has sex so she gets pregnant. A bit punitive, you know?
I also watched the clip in that post and am wondering if Todd is just always evil and/or batshit crazy? Because I've never watched OLTL but the last I knew of Todd (I think it was when I was in college?) he was gang-raping a woman. And now he's beating up 16-year-olds. Um, issues...

Todd has his good moments and his bad moments. He's good comic relief sometimes but in my opinion, he is a forever certified bad guy. I will be very very very disappointed if Todd faces no consequences for beating up both Marrco and Cole. It seems as if things will get worse also - did you see how he threatened Langston at the end of last episode? It actually sent chills down my spine and I'm worried about where the show is going with this.
But to answer your questions, yes, Todd is bat-shit crazy, although usually not THAT crazy. One of the reasons the original actor stepped away from the Todd role is because he thought the were making Todd too much of a good guy, but this is definitely the original Todd coming out right now. I kept waiting for Starr to shout out, "The only rapist in this room is YOU, dad!"

Also, the kid Todd was beating up is the son of the woman he gang raped. Small world, huh?

Oh, eeeewwwww.
I mean, thanks for the info. But, eeewwwww.
[I just realized this is not entirely different from Lulu and Logan on GH. Dammit. I retract at least one eeewwwww.]

Todd's lost it, this is true. He's got so many issues wrapped up with sex in general, raping Marty, and his daughter that, really, he just snapped. Will anyone be able to talk him down? Here's hoping (I actually love the character but I know this is Old School Todd making an appearance.)
It's actually kind of cool in a way... and by that I mean that Todd was an unpredictable character once upon a time. You really didn't know what he was going to do. Right now kind of reminds of the Hospital Rapist storyline that was set up to LOOK like Todd had reverted to his rapist ways and you didn't really want to believe it but you thought maybe it was true. This Todd is reverting to his dangerously violent ways and it's unsettling because you don't know what's coming next.
Blair's got her hands full with Starr and Todd, that's for sure.
As for the sex scene... well, I was totally against this because I've seen Starr grow up on screen and Kristen Alderson is 16 years old and LOOKS it and her costar Brandon Buddy is 22... that just kind of squicks me out. But the scenes weren't exploitative in the least. Starr and Cole did talk about things, they are in love with each other (such a change from most teens losing their virginity on soaps anymore) and it was done with some sensitivity to it.
The disappointing thing? No discussion about protection at all and I seriously doubt any was used.
Plus? It seems that Starr is lying to Blair about what happened and that fries me because Blair is going to the mat for her daughter right now and will continue to.
But then, Starr and Todd are pretty much exactly alike.
SwanSinger- 03-17-2008
I'm really enjoying the big brother role Jared has taken with both Matthew and Cole. They make a strange but nice trio of brothers/uncle-nephews/or whatever they are.
SwanSinger- 04-04-2008
This is driving me crazy. Why doesn't Dorian step in to remind Blair and Todd that they are not Langston's parents? Both of their behavior toward Langston creeps me out. If I were her, I would want them out of my house ASAP. Also, it doesn't make much sense to me why Dorian continues to allow, much less WANT, that family in her home. I know she loves them all (except Todd), but they are really screwing up her new "daughter" who has her own set of issues. I find the situation very disturbing from the standpoint of an educator who sees the effect of messed up home lives on a daily basis.

I totally agree with this. Why are they living there? They are both successful in their own right, why do they need to live with Dorian when it's so obviously creating more friction?
SwanSinger- 04-04-2008
I'm glad someone agrees with me. This Starr storyline is creeping me out to the point that its not entertaining. Todd has become a villain you can root for in recent years, but when he gives Langston the look of death, it truly makes me shudder. Maybe it's because their dysfunction touches too close to home for me, but the entire story makes me very uncomfortable and I hope it ends soon (although with the possible pregnancy I doubt it will).
I'd be happy if Starr and Cole ran away and never came back. Langston, however, I like. The actress that portrays her is very graceful and subtle for such a young woman. I think she could have great potential as Dorian's (who I love!) new protege - far better than Adrianna. Bring back Cassie too while we're at it!
