-I am completely convinced that the writers who come up with Sam's storylines are only trying to make different situations for her to cry about.

I agree.....

| -I actually really liked yesterday's scenes with Maxie and Spinelli. They were good foils for one another. Now if only they didn't throw in that inane black and white sequence. I could've done without that. |
They're awfully cute together, aren't they, Janaynay? Now if GH will just go s-l-o-w-l-y with them, or better yet, keep the friendship vibe going for a while before rushing into "the best couple chemistry ever so let's have 'em take over the show." Guza has this uncanny ability to accidentally strike gold with pairing off some characters -- then try to capitalize on it in the most ham-fisted, offensive way possible thus totally ruining it. Witness the Spinelli hatred after he virtually ate the show for nearly a year. Lulu and Johnny had this really nice chemistry that has somehow gone completely flat. Ditto Lulu and Logan. Is it Guza's writing or is Julie Marie Berman the AntiChemistry, sucking chem out of the room like a black hole.
Speaking of chemistry, how great was that scene between Johnny and Luke? It was wonderful to see Brandon Barash grin and toss jibes back and forth with Tony Geary. You know, TG gives off more ham than a blue-ribbon sow but dang if he isn't good with the kiddies. At times he truly sparkles and allows them to sparkle. Some of JMB's finest scenes were discussing the rape with Luke last year. (Although either she or he seems to have lost that connection lately.) The roof scene with BB had an easy charm that made me appreciate both actors. Or maybe it's just sexual tension. ;o)
And Laura Wright (despite her documented Voice Modulation Disorder) was adorable in a parallel scene with Lulu. She's at her best when she relaxes in her characterization rather than depending on bombast. LW is so *cute* when the storyline/scene allows her to smile. Not a fan of the darker foundation the make-up department is using on the wimmin-folk though. On older actresses like NLG and LW it tends to make them look ... well ... older.
And speaking of hair/makeup, GH's scissor-happy stylist struck again today with a crime more heinous than the TMK's: how dare that bang-obsessed harpy touch Scotty's bangs?!! Did she think she was clipping John Proctor in a high school run of The Crucible? All that choppy, angular hatchet job needed was a pilgrim hat and big-buckle shoes. Yikes. But did anyone think Kin Shriner and Nancy Lee Grahan twinkled together? I know Sebastian Roche fans everywhere clamor for Jerry and Alexis, but I just can't get behind Alexis dating (or even ONSing) someone who poisoned Nik. It goes beyond bad storytelling no matter how compelling SR is. But Scotty? Oh, Alexis and Scotty would be such a great pair because he's a *fun* scoundrel as opposed to a full-on villain and would bring back the laughter Alexis so desperately needs. (Shades of NLG with Wally Kurth, Ingo Rademacher or early Rick Hearst days.)
Could Logan have used any more cliches in one short convo with Lulu? "Let go and let God" ... "If you love someone, set them free" ... "The hardest thing I'll ever have to do is let you go" ... well, the list was endless. But bless Josh Duhon's soul because he played it with a sincerity that goes a long way towards redeeming Logan's thuggish tendencies. I still remain convinced that LL3 is endgame and Johnny merely a red herring. Hey, ABC even shot promos and bumpers with LL3 -- no way does Frons spend that $$ without a purpose.
Quick hits:
It is beyond ridiculous to have the TMK prowl the hallways of GH while in full "killer/black balaclava" regalia.
It is beyond ridiculous that Epiphany snaps, "This is a hospital people," then decides to open a box with her son's *ashes*. Wouldn't a true professional have put the box in her locker (especially since she had to know it was either Stanford .. or his last effects.) To then pull out a big-ass URN while bitching, "What are you looking at?" seems equally ludicrous.
How sad is it that I couldn't tell Epiphany was having a heart attack? I just thought it was more of Sonya ::: gasp ::: Eddy's :::: gasp:::: characteristic asthmatic over--emoting.
AdamPascalFan- 02-12-2008
Actually I was more in shock that Epiphany HAD a heart to have said attack....
could have fooled me.....
jackpeyton- 02-13-2008
maxie & Spin could be great. i just want the story to go slow. no need to tell a love story in 3 minutes ala logan/lulu again.
wouldnt it be fab if maxie became a PI like her mother? even tho maxie - with great reason - hates her mother, i would love them to show how much alike they are. and maxie & Spin as PI's would be great! however it would be kinda sad to see maxie solve a case that mac cant....
i am ready for nik to be done with em and move onto nadine so we can find out her backstory.
and i dont care who hit sam - im just sad they didnt kill her.
Janaynay- 02-13-2008
You're completely right, kazou. I am wondering whether a scab stylist took over when the scab writers did.
And yes, Epiphany shouldn't have whipped out her son's ashes at the nurse's station. What if she had dropped them??

I couldn't tell either! I was under the impression that she's supposed to be comic relief. After all, as a character, Epiphany is a total cartoon. But, her charm has worn off. She's neither interesting or amusing, just a nagging harpy. A bigger blacker Carly!

Again, you can't tell me Guza isn't scab writing this stuff under a pseudonym:[LIST] [*]Lucky accosts Jason (who rides a motorcycle and has for nearly a decade) about being the car driver who hit Sam.
|
Ok not to beat a dead horse or start a war...BUT...
Jason does have a car....he drove one not only on the first episdoe of Night Shift....but he also drove Liz to the hospital to deliver Jake in a car/SUV (If he had driven that motorcycle I would be even more convinced than I already am that Jason caused Liz's complications by moving her like he did) AND he drove one when he "rescued" Jake from Maureen....
And lord knows Lucky heard about that a gazillion and seven times.....
So Lucky thinking Jason hit Sam with a car isn't really a sign of him being stupid this time. Jason does have a car....and Lucky knows of at least two occassions he was driving it.
And jackpeyton...i agree I don't care who hit Sam...who isn't dying...dead..in a coma...paralyized...or having any life altering physical changes because of this (Darn! I was so hoping for a tragic scar!) And I fail to see why who hit her is being put on the same level as Who Murdered Georgie Jones and Emily Quatermaine?

I did it but I thought she was someone else. Okay?! Case closed. Now can we talk about something else, please, IIC.....I didn't say you, Sonny, Jason, and Claudia.
AdamPascalFan- 02-13-2008
But there IS nothing else Marianne...that is ALL WE WATCH FOR!!! didn't you hear?
kazou- 02-13-2008
No war necessary ;o) I didn't watch NS and forgot about driving Liz to the hospital. (If I ever thought about it I probably assumed it was her car.)

Am i the only one who wants Elizabeth's brains returned to her?
The girl figured out who raped her by hearing one pretty common phrase and now I get the impression if Jason wasn't around she couldn't tie her shoes!
someone PLEASE explain to me why Elizabeth telling the police she MAY have done something and going in there with a lawyer who got Jason off of a murder he DID committ is such a horrid idea? (and I still think that if they are pushing her so hard this early...its so not her. My money is Monica...so Guza can punish her for going off on poor grieving Jason about Emily's death)
CarlD- 02-14-2008
Isn't Liz also the girl who thought her teacher raped her (later finding out he was gay) and accidentally stabbed Lucky in the process? And she was the girl who used to not even be able to work more than a small part of a shift at Kelly's without the owner telling her to go home because of all the stress she was under.
She's never come across as all that bright to me.

Yeah, most people violently raped jump right back into the ole 40-hours. What a slacker. Although compared to Lulu she's a workaholic!
Actually, Liz may not be a top tier Mensa candidate but I've always thought she's fairly bright -- especially in the soap world. Smart enough to finish college and get her nursing degree. Smart enough to be shown, continually, over the past several years as doing that job well. Smart enough to outwit the PCPD time after time (well, okay, that doesn't take many smarts) to hide Jason, steal his file, etc. And she does all this with two kids (although admittedly Audrey babysits a lot -- but every grandparent I know has to pull daycare duty in this age of shrinking wealth).
And really, all she has to do is toss her pretty, pretty hair and I don't care how many IQ points she racks up -- I'm blinded by The Shiny!

She may have had time off then, but I was talking about after Lucky's "death". It seemed like for months and months, if not longer, she would go into work, then after a few minutes, Tammy or Bobbie would tell her to go home because it was too much for her. Then she would paint and have long conversations with Jason and go bicker with Carly.
She's also had two unplanned children with very questionable choices in men, kept secrets that did horrible damage to everyone around her, and other moments I have probably blocked out. I know that whole Ric marriage was one stupid moment after another, but then, that whole story was incredibly stupid, so I just edited out what I wrote about her part in that, I don't remember all the details.
I don't like her with Jason but I don't think she would be any smarter without him. The only women allowed to be smart are Tracy and Alexis, and Alexis is regularly raked over the coals. I think Liz is intelligent as a nurse but those brains seem to fail her everywhere else in her life. The same has happened to Robin, they have ruined her everywhere but her medical career, and even Robin's medical career is being compromised.
I like Liz's hair, but I think everything else about the character has been poorly conceived since somewhere around 1999. Too bad because Becky Herbst is a good actor when she gets the chance, like her recent hospital scenes where she told Lucky about what Sam had done.
AdamPascalFan- 02-14-2008
You mean around the same time they were trying to pimp Jason/Liz the first tme?
Hmmm I smell conspiracy.....Then again I'm a long time Luke fan...I think that's just part and parcel of the whole deal....
I just feel that the writing hasn't ever been this blatantly "Hey guy I'm seeing..think for me!" If she didn't agee with Lucky or Ric...she tended to not agree with them and she went and did what she thought was right. I hated the surgacy with every fiber of my being but she had a mind of her own then.....I just feel some days I'm waiting for the phrase "Oh I don't know Jason. You decide for me. You are just so much smarter about this than I am." to come flying out of her mouth.
