I can't tell if my Jagger love is just blinding everything, but I liked the first show. Obviously some things weren't perfect, but compared to General Hospital, I liked it much better.
I heard there are more mob people to come on GH which just makes me want to like this show even more.
I hope it doesn't disappoint.

I have five words to sum up how I feel about NS2 right now....
Shirtless Jagger in a towel. (insert drooling smilie here)
And four more...Jagger introducing son Stone.
No mob. No Phelps. No Guza. yes there are issues (as we all knew there would be since its supposed to line up with GH) but we got shirtless Jagger this week, Scrubs having a DIFFERENT conversation (which I thought was a sign of the end of the world or something!), there was no random "hey lets put a mobster here", Billy Dee's medianet cast photo has him doing the jazz hands which cracks me up to no end and next week we get Robert.........so far I'm good.

I liked parts of it. Sort of.
It bugged me that the set is different. Why would the hospital look different at the same time? Maybe I just have issues but it made it hard for me to suspend my disbelief. And I watch ABC soaps so I have a lot of practice. Speaking of disbelief, WTH is Patrick the chief of staff? I know others have mentioned it but I just can't get past it. He is one of my favorite characters on either show and I love him but I can't even figure out how he got to be such a hot shot surgeon at his age and now he is the damn chief of staff??? Maybe they could have had Monica do it. Oh, probably not cause her OG GH schedule is so full... LOL.
I really liked Robin and Patrick. Except when he was telling her what to do instead of hotly discussing it.
I missed Original Leo. And I didn't even really know him or like him yet but the new one made me miss him. Did Teschner make a bad casting call or was he absent that day?
I think there are just too many new characters all at once. I don't care about any of these people besides Robin and Patrick. At one point I was missing Nice Jason Janitor from NS 1 and maybe even Spinelli a little...
I liked that there was no mob or mob war to deal with (FF through).
I liked that there was no old lady or clown needlepoint.
Damn, I have to work hard at watching/liking this show...

Although Jason Morgan was actually part of the reason I continued to torture myself with Night Shift Season 1, I have to disagree and say that him being absent is for the best. It makes the chances of a season finale shoot out right in the hospital less likely. NO MOB PLEASE.
I'd be much happier if this show just focused on redeeming the hotness of Robin and Patrick while running clean storylines revolving around the hospital. I will adjust to some newbies for the sake of that. Plus we can look forward to some Robert Scorpio and possible Anna Devane sightings from what I've read.
With the already improved truer-to-character writing from show 1, I have to be optimisitc. Robin didn't shriek once and Patrick's head vein hasn't bursted out of his face. I'm not saying it's not possible, but so far so good.
Oh, did I mention Jagger? No, well KEEP BRINGING IT.

So many people liked the first hour of Night Shift 2 and I LOVE Patrick and Robin so I am just trying to figure out why I didn't love it so much. I think boils down to two things. One is because I am "slow to warm". It will take me a while to figure out who all these new people are and start to care about what happens to them. Sadly, it will probably take me about 13 weeks... I wasn't interested in Leo Julian at until way after NS 1 was over. I think the other problem is that I am looking for NS to be GH but more the way I want it to be. I want GH to be more about the hospital and about love. Patrick and Robin fill that slot nicely. But TPTB are trying to come up with a spin off like Port Charles that has fans and its own separate story so, they have to throw all the new characters against the wall to see what sticks. The first episode of NS 1 and NS 2 both remind me of the first episodes of Port Charles. Lots of interns and hospital drama with a few of the old GH favorites thrown in. This just worries me. Do Kimberly and Jason know where Lucy Coe and Kevin Collins are now... In fact after I warmed up to all those newbies then they cancelled the show. As far as I am concerned they have plenty of interesting non mob characters on OG GH to work with. The last thing I need is a bunch of new characters. I want GH to be mob free or at least have that be an occasional story or even in the story but in the way that the heroes take the mob down. I am thinking they should make the spin off about the mob and take Jason, Sonny, Carly and the rest of the mob (which is getting bigger every day) to primetime and leave the rest of the characters at the hospital on General Hospital and actually do some soapy stuff with them?????
Or maybe I am just slow to warm...
Maybe I will cheer up when Robert comes. I care about what happens to him.
Sarah over in the comments section did remind me of my favorite part though! I loved the shout out to the long time fans with the Tania Jones Daycare sign!

Laura all those reasons make perfect sense to me...and I admit the biggest reason for me being so enthusastic right now is the fact there is no mob, no Guza and no Phelps. I completely admit that I nurse a fantasy that this is a baby step to getting Guza out of power....I also admit it's probably delusional to think that way.....
And NS did allegedly start out strong before becoming the flaming pile of crap it became so I'm well aware I may later regret my joy...
But for right now...i'm living in the wonder that is Jagger shirtless in a towel....being funny....and beautiful.....and just...Jagger!!!
juniemoonie- 08-28-2008
Cried during the show and cried some more during the recap. At this point I mostly cry because regular GH can't hold a candle to this show.
AdamPascalFan- 08-29-2008
I'm with you Junie...I weep daily when I see GH and then compare it to its cable only spin off. I weep. I weep when I see what this daytime newcomer who apparently jumped at this because he's a FAN of this show has done in SIX episodes and then see what Guza can't accomplish in over a decade since he's using exact scenes and passing them off as new ones all the time.
Please let the dream I had that the hiring of Sri and Lisa was a trial run to -*test*-('") out replacements for Guza/Phelps be true......please soap gods...I won't ask for anythig else except maybe more Greg Vaughan shirtless action...if you allow this to happen. Clearly many of my issues with this show would be gone if Guza/Phelps would just let the door hit them in the tookus.
juniemoonie- 09-20-2008
I don't know Beth, dare we speak of the last episode of Night Shift 2? HAHAH!
Anyway, still loving Sri's take on the things, especially Robert Scorpio. How hilarious was he with the party hats?
Still loved the post Becca and there was a lot more to snark about this week even though it still maintained the "being better in everything" as compared to GH.
AdamPascalFan- 09-22-2008
Junie...I feel like living dangerously...lets try it...
As I stated on the blog..I'm with Becca....the Robin/Jagger thing makes sense to me. I like it. Its soapy and real in a way that can only make Guza's head explode and for that alone I like it. I don't think there will be anything major in it and its just to drive home how Patrick and Robin have drifted since his *cough* promotion *cough* (yeah...still cracking up on that one.) I mean lets be honest Junie...had Guza written that...well it would have been like blackout 07 all over again.
Sri's take on Robert is hillarious and I love Tristan. It is light years better than "Robert the bastard father" than Guza wrote. (Although I am still confused how Robert abandoning Robin is bad yet Jason abandoning Jake is like proof of his great love.....but I will not sully NS any more discussion of THAT)
yeah the newbie characters are weak and rip offs of Gray's...and Friends....but it takes me about a year to actually like any newbie so that doesn't bug me that much honestly.
juniemoonie- 09-22-2008
The whole thing with Robin and Jagger didn't seem like a big deal to me at all. Also explore doesn't necessarily mean that Robin has to fall in love with Jagger or jump in the sack (although maybe on GH it would) with him. They've known each other for years and even if they explored the residual tension from that scene, it still would only serve to further alert Robin that her and Patrick have stuff to work on.
I mean are we honestly supposed to hear them have another fight about moving in together? or a flipping couch? Honestly, Sri isn't messing with the foundation Robin and Patrick have built, he's just making their relationship more interesting.
Robert Scorpio is so great and he's always been a favorite of mine since I was a tot. I like that Sri understands the characters he writes for, their histories and (even though he didn't write them originally) he stays true to them.
To be honest, I don't hate the new characters, I just don't really care about them. If Sri was writing for the younger set on GH I bet he could work wonders with these characters that Guza has written so far into a corner. Like Lulu!
Oh and maybe the show would be about a hospital again. Unfortunately, I doubt they will be canning Guza anytime soon, especially with all of these new mob people they brought on. GAG.
AdamPascalFan- 09-22-2008
In my book Sri is actually giving Robin and Patrick a foundation that is stronger than the mini-one that Guza gave them. Like I got the chemistry between them...and I understood the conflict...but I grew bored after the sixth fight over the exact same conversation.
And I am all for any angst in a soap couple that does not automatically end with cheating. Its way more soapy that way and way more intertaining to watch. Also again I imagine Guza watching it and his head exploding in confusion at why people like that and not when he does somethign he thinks is that.
Yeah the newbies are just newbies to me. There's nothing to hook me into them. If they didn't recast "Leo" and let him show up more than once in a blue moon on the OGGH...maybe I could be more into Kyle but that's about it.
Ahhh the show that's named for a hospital BE about a hosptial again? What a wonderful wonderful dream......
speaking of NS and Guza.....did anyone else see the small SOD interview where the interviewer basically asked Guza what it felt like to see the fan reaction to the second season of NS when he had nothing to do with it? Sure I'm positive that person was probably fired immediately afterwards but I officialy love that soap mag writer!
juniemoonie- 09-22-2008
I missed that interview but WOW. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when that question was asked. I can literally hear Guza's eye twitching.
AdamPascalFan- 09-22-2008
Alright here is the basic jist of the interview..and it was real short in the "news" section where he was addressing rumors. He was asked how it felt to watch his baby NS2 when he’s not writing! His response was it was weird, watching the show and thinking “why don’t they call me?” (laughing). But he said he was pleased with it and who knew if it continued on the same well received track it could be produced on a more ongoing basis (like a permanent night time show or something).
Ok first off....I totally think he back peddled there and second....sounds like someone knows NS is VERY well received. Hee! And I love how the writer buttered him up calling it his "baby" before lowering the "hey doesn't it suck that its liked now that you aren't a part of it?" boom. It's like salt....open wound...pour it on soap mag writer...pour it on!
Like I said that person and John Ingle...totally my new heroes...I am going to erect statues in their honor.
KLe- 09-22-2008
Bwah! You know Guza totally went into a fit of rage after that one! Unfortunately for us he probably focused all that rage into his la-*test*-('") storyboards. The ones where he kills a few more Quartermaines, continues to deface legacy characters, and introduces "new" and "exciting" mobsters!
Ugh.
But at least I have NS. And after the news I've heard about what's to come over there, it seems like things are only going to get better!
ETA: I didn't want to spoil anyone in the thread, but if surprises
aren't your thing...EEEEEE! (Yes, it's THAT exciting!)
