We give GH a lot of grief (most of it justified!), but as it celebrates its 45th anniversary I thought it might be fun to have a thread with links to clips of the show when it was great. If nothing else, we can remind each other that we are not completely insane for giving this show several hours of our time every week. (We are a little insane for doing that, and I for one am completely insane for a combination of reasons, but based on how good this show used to be I don't think continuing to watch it is outright lunacy.)

I'll start with probably the most obvious one: Luke and Laura's wedding

Predictions about, and then reviews of, Tuesday's alleged retrospective could also go here. Janaynay's hilarious speculation in the media thread may have covered all the territory, though:
QUOTE
I'm actually preparing for a Jason montage complete with soft-focus lighting and slow-motion replays of Jason doing Jason-y things: shooting people, staring blankly, shooting more people, hugging Liz/Sam and staring blankly into the distance, performing a c-section in the hospital elevator, pulling Liz from a CGI car about to go over a CGI bridge into a CGI river, and lastly...driving the motorboat to Spoon Island and staring blankly ahead.

This will be set to any number of songs:
"When You Say Nothing At All"
"You Are My Everything"
"Every Breath You Take"
"God Only Knows"
"Can't Take My Eyes Off of You"

I love this thread! I chose the following clip for many reasons:

-Anything having to do with the Nurses Ball just makes me happy like a kid on the last day of school (and if I recall correctly they actually used to begin around the last day of school so I would run home to see it.)

-Robin, Stone and Mac and their storylines were so well done even before Stone was sick. I loved Mac's evolution from the bad boy to the responsible parent when Robin started dating someone he didn't approve of. Also the way that story took place over time and actually had a story arc rather than starting and ending in one month or starting and dropping off of the canvas in three minutes.

-Pretty much all things Labine era on GH made me love this show so much. The dialogue, the way she could pretty much write for every person on that show no matter what their storyline needed to be, and the show wasn't centered around 3 people and therefore everyone could be made rootable in some way (plus, no Carly).

My favorite moment from the BJ/Maxie heart storyline.

gingin- 03-31-2008
I have so many favorite moments on GH from years past. The clip with Tony placing his head on Maxie's chest listening to BJ's heart.

For GH and the current stupid most romantic storyline ever(Tumors and Dead Emily), here is real heartwarming romance and sadness which is what Emily and Nik's current story should have strived toward.

This is when Stone died and saw Robin for the last time.WOW. What a powerful moment and it was Romantic, Tragic, and Sad. I wish GH could strive for moments like this today. How sad a state but how wonderful that we have moments like this on tape and youtube to refer back to the great days GH once had.

One more favorite moment. This was back in the heydey of Luke and Laura and was when Laura returned back from the dead. This was an incredible and epic moment on GH. They just don't do it like this anymore. Again GH, you missed the boat with this damn Emily and Nik ridiculous tumor story. When you have moments like this to go back to it makes you realize how ridiculous and bad the current show is.

One of my favourite scenes ever is Alexis' smackdown of Roy, Jason and Sonny at Kristina's funeral:

And even though it was actually a pretty stupid storyline I loved the Mixed Marrieds.

Oh, how I wish YouTube wasn't blocked from my Firewall at work. Maybe someone out there can help a sister out by posting a link.

No GH retrospective would be complete without the infamous "clink-boom" sequence from when Lily died.

Amen to that. I think that gets the honor of Top GH Moment EVER in my book. Still cried like a frickin' baby when they re-aired that during the Robin marathon a few months back.

I don't watch the show anymore, but I still enjoy talking about GH's past. This clip contains one of my favorite GH moments, Lois popping out of the cake at Katherine's birthday party. We'd been waiting for the truth to come out for so long and this scene was such a great pay-off. Plus, it contains a whole bunch of great characters, most long-gone.

Ask and ye shall receive.

Also, a couple other favorites.

I was going to pick clink-boom as my favorite too but since it has already been done, I'll add these two instead (I'm a big Brenda fan!)

This is the "amazine grace" montage from when Brenda sees Sonny at church for the first time and watches him get shot by Roy. Carla is at home at the same time and is making dinner so you see the two scenes at the same time. Very reminiscent of clink-boom.

This is the "imagine you" montage from when Brenda came back in 2002. Luis Alcazar shoots Jax and Sonny comes in (back from the dead) and shoots Luis.

My favorite sequence of recent time....and I dont' have a link yet but I will find one for you all or put it up on You Tube my darn self....

Laura and Luke going to identify Lucky's body in the morgue....and then Laura just hissing "Murderers" at Sonny and Jason and blasting them in full grieving mother mode....chills....tears....and the definitive proof the Emmy system is screwed beyond belief when Genie didn't even get a nod much less the statue for THAT scene alone.....

sasha0204- 03-31-2008
I had trouble choosing just one from the early days of Lucky and Elizabeth. Shouldn't everyone experience that for their first love? I loved JJ's Lucky and RH has such a beautiful smile. I can't remember the last time she smiled on GH. Be warned it is so sweet it will make your teeth hurt. Here's Lucky singing "Elizabeth"and "My Girl"

That performance of "When Angels' Cry" makes me cry everytime. I miss Lucy Coe so much too.

Ok, changing gears, here is a clip that begun one of my favorite 80's love stories on GH---Anna and Duke. These two just sizzled. (It also told a story that was mob related where the mobster realized that getting OUT of the mob was the best way to be an upstanding, moral person.)
