Hi everyone! I started watching DAYS when I was three (my babysitter was an addict, and I had the choice to either watch with her or take naps). I stopped watching around the time of Marlena's possession, but have started again since it's been on the upswing. I also watch GH (I saw Antonio Sabato, Jr. on there once and simply could not change the channel) and OLTL. Since I have SOAPnet, I also occassionally catch AMC and Y&R. I heart serialdrama, and I'm so psyched for this forum!!

Marianne- 01-08-2008
Hi, I'm Marianne-yes, the same bitchy Marianne that replies to the Serial Drama blogs. This seems like it will be a very nice place to visit, I shall do my very best to abide by all the rules set forth herein, and THANK YOU! for giving all of us SD addicts a place to debate without pissing off other posters who just want us to "shut up about it, already!". And I would, were it not an outright violation of the rules, send you one of those creepy internet "hugs" for disallowing banners/avis/etc.-it's much easier to waste my boss' time and scroll through boards without getting caught when I don't have to wait for someone's banner using the same damn picture of the same damn couple with the same damn lyrics from the same damn Celine Dion song written on it in damn glitter to load. Thank you, Becca and Mallory!

Hello Everyone.

I've been watching Days and GH since I was a tot (so both since about 1985). I was also previously a huge fan of Another World before Farren-Phelps washed it down the tubes. I also watch All My Children and One Life to Live on occasion.

Have been loving Serial Drama ever since I googled "fire Guza." How could I have guessed that almost a year later, Guza would still be around but I would have found my favorite site?!

I am really excited about this idea and can't wait to start posting!

Goddess- 01-08-2008
Hey, all, my name is Goddess, but you can call me Goddess;)

I used to love to watch Y&R, now it seems like I love to trash Y&R. There's just so much material to work with now!

I love reading the columns on Serial Drama, and I hope the forums are every bit as fun.

Hello all.

I have been reading Serial Drama for some time now and this seemed like a good time to come out of lurkedom. I am an avid Days fan and have been since I was a child. My Mom and one very soap obsessed neighbor got me hooked. I go waaaaay back with Days. Think Bill and Mickey fighting over Laura, Hope's onscreen birth, Maggie and Mickey and the red shoes. I look forward to some interseting conversations and some fun snarking.

Treestar- 01-08-2008
Hello fellow love/haters of soaps. I found this blog through another site, and love it to death! My job is really slow and boring right now (we deal with housing) and I have spent all day today perusing this site and love the incredible wit and insight. I watched AMC (started on day one, and stopped a few months ago), and still watch once in a while GH, OLTL and Y&R.

A bad as things got, I never thought I would give up AMC. It was like my favorite child: if I was gonna give up one of my kids, it wouldn't be AMC. But alas, it is unrecognizable, and I cannot bear to even see a glimpse of it.

Let me tell ya that if your long-time favorite soap ain't cutting it for you anymore, try another one. After leaving AMC, I started watching Y&R and while long-time viewers HATE it, I like it -- cuz I don't have the history with the soap like they do. So in other words, I don't know it's crap cuz I have no history to compare it to.

Oh, and I watched Days for a month or two when the original Ashley Abbott played triplets. She was a riot! Krist-ann was the main triplet - loved her buck teeth.

Treestar - the secret word my kids used in case a stranger wanted to give them candy (who are now in their 20s and rarely need a secret word anymore) aka lynne

Karen here, sometimes known as bringbackeugene. I watched Days through the late 70's til the end of the 80's, took about 15 years off, and started watching again in 2005. I'm a new viewer to OLTL, beginning when Farah Fath started in October.
Looking forward to posting here!

Daytime Diva- 01-08-2008
Hi, everyone! I'm Lauren. I'm a fellow soap blogger, and I've been reading and enjoying Serial Drama for quite some time now.

I've been a soap watcher since I was a kid -- one of those children who grew up at her grandmother's house glued to "the stories" for as long as she could remember. Over the years, I've watched As the World Turns, Guiding Light, The Young and the Restless, All My Children, and General Hospital. Right now I'm exclusively watching GH (my graduate coursework makes taking on too many soaps impossible right now!), and I'm spending more time analyzing how much better it could be on my blog than actually enjoying the show ... but aren't we all.

I think my favorite early soap memory is the blackout on GL in the early '90s, but I'm absolutely engrossed by early '80s GH right now on YouTube. Time to head over to the GH Historical thread to discuss the Susan Moore murder, I think! :)

Hi, I'm Topher ...and unless I overlooked one, I think I'm the first guy here! Sweet!

I gotta say, I'm loving the rules for this forum. I read several other soap boards, but I don't usually post because of a lot of the things that are not allowed here. It's nice to have a chance to post in a forum where folks are both respectful and literate!

As for soaps, I got hooked on AMC back in 1992, and OLTL soon followed. In 1993, I started watching GH because of all the "Luke & Laura are coming home!" promos. 15 years later, I'm still watching all three, mostly out of habit. I do think OLTL is the best ABC soap right now. I guess I keep watching AMC and GH on occasion because I have some teeny tiny hope that one day I'll turn them on and they'll be awesome again!

In the meantime, I take comfort in knowing that the folks at Serial Drama feel my pain! I've been reading the columns for about a year now, and even though I've never commented, I'm a big fan!

femina- 01-08-2008
Hi Everyone,

I am Femina and like many of you, my grandmother introduced me to soaps before I began school. I’ve been reading Serial Drama for awhile now, and even offering comments occasionally. But I’m especially thrilled to see this Forum.

I’ve watched virtually every past and/or present soap on television since 1970 (that is not an exaggeration), but my loyalties lie primarily with All My Children and Guiding Light. Right now, I’m extremely frustrated by the quality (or lack thereof) of the writing on both soaps, but old habits die hard. So I still watch while cursing the screen.

Anyway, glad to see there is a historical thread for the soaps. Maybe the current writing staff and producers of the show need to take a peek inside to see what good storytelling is all about. I can’t wait to relive some of the great moments with others.

lorrierack- 01-08-2008
Hi, my name's Lorrie. I first started watching the soaps back in 1976, when I was born. Admittedly, my earliest memories of soap watching are a little vague, almost nonexistent, but when I see old clips of GH from 1979-1982 in particular, I get a very strong feeling of deja vu. I remember knowing who Luke and Laura were, and I loved them. I clearly remember Heather Webber for some reason, and Alan and Monica. I remember Laura disappearing on the docks back in 1982, and being upset when my mom told me she was dead. And although I don't remember this, I freaked my mom out when I heard the song "Rise" somewhere and said, "Listen, Mom, it's the rape song." I was three.

But my days as a soap viewer ended when I had to go to elementary school and mom went back to work. I was, however, thrilled to overhear a couple of classmates talking in 1983 about Laura's brief return to GH. She was alive! While puzzled by this, I also remember thinking that Luke must be so happy. Yeah, I'm not so sure I knew they weren't real people.

And for some reason, I remember Jesse and Angie from AMC, even though they didn't become big until after I had started school. I have no idea why, but I clearly remember them being on the run after kidnapping their baby.

I didn't watch daytime soaps again until one boring summer day in 1990, when I was flipping through channels and ended up watching most of a program I would later learn was One Life to Live. Over the next two years, I added All My Children, Loving, and then General Hospital. I've watched all of the soaps, on all of the networks, at one time or another. Another World was favorite non-ABC soap, and I also loved early-mid '90s Guiding Light.

There was a period from 1992 or so until maybe 1998 when I never deliberately missed an episode of a ABC soap, particularly GH. The early '90s were a great time for soap couples, but if I had to pick only one favorite couple, I'd pick Kevin and Lucy from GH.

Things started going to hell for the soaps starting in the late '90s, and it's been downhill since then. Soaps started writing "wacky" storylines (possessions, etc.) to temporarily boost ratings, but that hurt the genre in the long run.

I'm down to one soap I tape, OLTL, the same one that started my soap watching habit in the first place. GH makes me crazy angry, which isn't healthy, so I get my fix reading the recaps and boards. AMC just makes me sad. I avoid both, but I always hope they'll become safe to watch again. I also follow Ryan's Hope on Soapnet and Hollyoaks on BBCAmerica's website. I just wish I could watch other British soaps like Eastenders or Coronation Street, as they'll probably still be around when the American soaps are cancelled.

Hey, my name is Jennifer. I have been watching soaps for about 7 years now. I mainly watch ABC soaps, but I do expand my horizons and watch DOOL's on breaks from school (I own a VCR not a DVR so what I record is limited).
I have been reading Serial Drama for a couple of months now. I am just so glad that I have some place to go so that I don’t become too mental as a result of watching these shows.
I am not an avid poster, but I will try to do better

SeeingRed- 01-09-2008
Hi,

Just call me Red. I've been watching various soaps for as long as I can remember. I'm now down to two. DAYS and OLTL.

I've always liked reading Serial Drama and I'm looking forward to the snark I'll find on the boards.

marenguy- 01-09-2008
Hi, my name is Maren.
I got hooked on soaps in college, in the Robert/Holly/Luke heyday of GH. Back then, GH was so hot that the mens basketball team successfully petitioned to have their practice rescheduled to 4:30pm so as not to interfere with their GH watching. Oh, those were the days!
My roommate was a dedicated AMC watcher and got me hooked because as a roomie/best friend, one of my duties was to watch and summarize when she had a 1pm class. Back then, no Tivo, no YouTube, no blogs to catch up...it really was the dark ages.
Needless to say, all that led me to watch OLTL since it is sandwiched between AMC and GH.
I have been watching on an off for over 20 years. On during college, off during work, on while on prolonged bed rest for a couple of high-risk pregnancies, off while being a busy mom, on when they went off to preschool... you get the idea.
Right now I'm on again. At least somewhat. I only catch AMC occassionally, in the vain hope that it will spark my interest again. OLTL is getting better after a horrendously long dry spell.
I fast-forward through more of GH than I actually watch. I would probably have given up long ago if I hadn't found that the ladies of Serial Drama (and other blogs) have made what was turning into a depressing viewing habit into something fun through the magic of mocking.
I'm looking forward to this new forum.

Dandesun- 01-09-2008
Hi all, I'm Dande.

I recall the soaps from sick days at home when Mom would fuss over us and then, once we were settled, say 'Okay, my story's on now' and watch Ryan's Hope. Then she'd do some more work around the house, make sure we were fed and comfortable before sitting down for her other story One Life to Live.

I've given all the soaps a try at some point but OLTL is the one I come back to. It's the one I know. In high school when my friends spent lunch talking about the escapades of Duke and Anna and Robert I was sitting there thinking about Cord and Tina and Max.

I did watch GH during the BJ's Heart storyline, got sucked into Sonny/Brenda, Stone/Robin, Kevin/Lucy but after watching Guza sanctify Jason the first time around and getting so pissed off with every episode as I watched AJ get cut out of his son's life merely because he wasn't Jason... yeah, I realized that I could just stop watching. I still have a vague interest in GH and Soapnet does allow me to catch things every now and then but for the most part, since Jason is still deified then GH doesn't have me.

I'm a OLTL girl and after the long dark tea-time of the soul that was Higley's reign, it's coming back to being a show worth watching again. I love being able to watch my whole show again as opposed to just hanging on by a thread for the sake of my very favorites even when they were getting trashed within an inch of their lives.

So, anyway... Hi!!
